North Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board


The purpose of the Criminal Justice System (CJS) is to deliver justice for all, by convicting and punishing the guilty and helping them to stop offending, while protecting the innocent.  It is responsible for detecting crime and bringing it to justice; and carrying out the orders of court, such as collecting fines, and supervising community
and custodial punishment
.

NYCJBThe main aims of the NYCJB are:

  • To encourage joint working for more efficient and effective criminal justice in North Yorkshire
  • To provide a more effective service for victims and witnesses
  • To increase public confidence in the CJS as a whole
  • To achieve joint local delivery of Criminal Justice System (CJS) objectives

The NYCJB is responsible for ensuring that North Yorkshire performs well against national and local criminal justice targets and that all agencies responsible for the delivery of criminal justice work together effectively.

This will ensure that more offenders are brought to justice, crime is reduced and that the criminal justice system works efficiently. 

 


MONEY SEIZED FROM CRIMINALS HAS BENEFITED 7 NORTH YORKSHIRE COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Seven  publicly nominated North Yorkshire community based projects have benefited from cash grants, thanks to the Community Cashback initiative that last year saw criminals’ ill-gotten gains reinvested into the community.

Last summer people were invited to have their say on  shortlisted Community Cashback projects in North Yorkshire. That feedback was taken into account when selecting grant recipients.

Filey Urban Art Project     -    £5789.80 - a Youth Club led project to build a graffitti wall to deal with the problem of graffitti in and around Filey centre.

Foundation Housing , York    -  £500 - to organise activities for young people with high support needs in their care.

York People First - £12,600 - a self advoccay group for people with learning difficulties to produce a DVD to be used in schools across North Yorkshire to raise awareness of the effects of Hate Crime.

Coasters Cafe,Scarborough - £2,500 - to provide young people with challenging behaviour ,vocational training and work experience in a community setting.

Talking Space,Harrogate - £20,000 - to provide training for community based volunteers and paid workers in support and counselling skills for victims of rape,domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Stokelsey Play Areas Action Group - £40,000 - to help build a play area for children aged 8 - 14 years in Stokesley, to combat the probelm of anti social behaviour within this age group in the area.

JABS Boxing Club,Richmond - £3,500 - to help them continue to provide youth opportunites within the community for young people.
