North Wales Criminal Justice Board has a very significant role to play in maintaining, supporting and improving the quality of life for people in North Wales through the vital task in the fight to reduce crime and bring more offenders to justice.

To be effective as a Board we cannot work in isolation, our aim is to find potential solutions to issues of concern to local people by listening to and involving communities.

PAYBACK FOR £500K TIMESHARE FRAUD

A convicted time-share fraudster has been forced to pay back nearly half a million pounds under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Arthur Goddard, a former director of Graig Park Village Ltd, Dyserth was this month forced to payback £451,651 he had conned from 50 people in a holiday home fraud. more

The nomination forms for the 2010 North Wales Volunteer & Community Justice Awards have been published and are available to download here (02 August 2010)

The deadline for nominations is Friday 17th September 2010.


LOWEST LEVEL OF CRIME SINCE 1981

The number of crimes committed in England and Wales has fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1981, the annual British Crime Survey (BCS) figures have shown.

the number of crimes committed fell 9% to 9.6 million in 2009/10. This is the first time the BCS figures have fallen below the 10 million mark.

GUILTY PLEA EFFICIENCY

Our Magistrate Courts are the most efficient in the UK at receiving guilty pleas at first hearings. (23 June 2010)

Latest figures released show that Wales has a 65% rate of guilty pleas at first hearings compared with the national average of 56%. read more

A campaign is being launched to warn vulnerable people across Wales about doorstep crime. (26 May 2010)

NORTH WALES TOP FOR LOOKING AFTER VICTIMS AND WITNESSES

North Wales has been rated as the top performing area in England & Wales for the service provided to victims and witnesses following a criminal charge. (12 May 2010)

The latest figures sees North Wales top the performance chart of the national No Witness, No Justice project with the post charge service provided once a crime is detected and the offender has been charged to court. read more


TOUGHER COMMUNITY PAYBACK SCHEME EXTENDED

Offenders sentenced to community payback will face even tougher and more intense punishments.(01 April 2010)

The intensive community payback sentence requires all unemployed offenders sentenced to more than 200 hours of community payback to complete their punishment intensively. read more


NUMBER OF REPEAT OFFENDERS DROPS IN NORTH WALES

The number of well-known criminals being monitored by North Wales police has dropped by 37%, the government has revealed. (09 March 2010)

According to Home Office information there are now 156 prolific and priority offenders (PPOs) compared with 247 in 2005/6. read more


MPS URGE UK GOVERNMENT TO BUILD NORTH WALES PRISON

There is an "urgent need" for a prison in north Wales which needs to be prioritised by the UK government, a committee of Welsh MPs has said. (03 March 2010)

COURT FINE DODGERS TARGETED

Offenders who failed to pay fines handed out by the courts in Gwynedd and Anglesey have been targeted as part of a crackdown. (22 February 2010)

Over recent days a joint operation between officers from Her Majesty’s Court Service (HMCS) and North Wales Police was conducted, tackling offenders who had not met payment on fines imposed by the courts. read more
