West Mercia Criminal Justice Board (WCJB)

The Board was formally established on 1st April 2003. The Board is made up of Chief Officers from each Criminal Justice Agency within West Mercia.

  • Her Majesty's Prison Service
  • Youth Offending Services
  • The Legal Services Commission
  • Victim Support and Witness Service

WCJB is one of 42 Local Criminal Justice Boards across England and Wales, playing a very important role in the fight to reduce crime, bring more offenders to justice, and improve Public confidence in the Criminal Justice System.

Mission

We aim to reduce crime, and the fear of crime, and to improve the criminal justice system.

Vision

We will do this by:

  • meeting national targets whilst being responsive to local needs
  • consulting our communities and addressing their concerns
  • being accountable for our performance, and
  • improving people's confidence in the criminal justice system

Values

We will work together:

  • to deliver proportionate and effective responses to offending
  • to promote equality of access, equality of opportunity for all and combat discrimination wherever it occurs
  • to value and respect each others' contribution and the responsibilities of our respective agencies, and
  • to focus on what we can achieve locally and influence nationally as a criminal justice board.
